It was with a tinge of sadness that I read in today's newsletter that Geoff has decided to pull the plug on Sid's racing career due to evidence of further arthritis and his recent  racing performances.

From the early days when trainer, Geoff Small, spoke confidently of Sid's promise and ability when he compared him to 2 of our syndicate stars, his racing life has been dominated by injury and disappointments.

Hopefully he will be a happier horse in his retirement.

Have not heard about Rhubarb Lane since his last run. Is all well and / or is his racing future being considered?

Well, the age of miracles is not yet over ( to quote an old remembered song).

Put in a decent effort for the entire race which demonstrates the genius of David Butcher.

Maybe, just maybe, there is a maiden win out there somewhere.

But Manawatu is finished for the season so Cambridge, or a small Sunday class equivalent meeting, might be his chance.

I did get quite a buzz out of his effort, I must admit.

Today's effort was a vast improvement on Friday's performance.
Still has heaps to learn but at least he got round this time without breaking - and a career best placing was the result.
If only he could just keep improving he may yet make a racehorse - but I wouldn't want to bet the house on it.

Sadly, it was a repeat of all his previous race performances.

Agree- just a fair workouts performer.

Me thinks that this horse does not want to be a race horse...... scratch
He broke twice without any apparent cause to finish a long and lonely last. Even his master, Geoff, wasn't able to keep him in line.
Yes it was horrible wet conditions, but it is the same conditions for all of the horses.

Unless there was a dramatic turnaround in performance I would consider his days as a racehorse to be numbered.

By all accounts I understand that Rhu gave a bit of a difficult drive at the workout yesterday, with some steering issues, but Geoff is obviously reasonably happy as the horse is to resume racing without any further "practice".
He resumes racing on Friday evening at Manawatu Raceway in Palmerston North.
He is in Race 4 at 7.39pm and has a horror draw of 8 which is the first horse on the second row. He has drawn behind a horse that has form of 00P788 so it looks as though he will be running for luck.

A pretty good run at the Cambridge workouts on Saturday by the sounds of things. Sid may have got a bit angry during the run, which he has a tendency to do, but a good result running second. Overall time 2:51 so nothing to get too excited about, but he did everything basically right.

Geoff Small indicated last Wednesday that Sid is progressing well and should be ready to go to workouts at the end of this month.

Has anyone got any news about when Rhubarb Lane will attend the workouts?
