At the final city class meeting at Bunbury, whilst they get Gloucester Park ready for the Inter Dominions, we saw commanding wins by Delightful Offer and The Bucket List.

Another good win at Gloucester Park last night for Delightful Offer. One out and three back but rounded them up comfortably. That is three wins in four starts in Western Australia.

A good horse leading at Gloucester Park then getting a soft quarter makes it extremely hard for the other horses. Even the horse behind the leader has no sprint lane to use. Delightful Offer was in a good position but got held up when something went around it, then broke trying to get clear. The one time that BB did not have it his own way, he folded. When BB can do work and overcome a hard run (e.g. Pure Steel) and still look good then I will get on board. The horses in the WA Derby were not the top rated New Zealand horses. Remember that Delightful Offer did not even qualify for the Northern Derby (The Faithful did) so BB also has to perform against a much better class of horse in order to start comparing it to I'm The Mighty Quinn. But then again Adam Hamilton and Gary Hall (both of them) are mainstream trotting guys and I am just a retired school teacher.

Adam Hamilton raving about Beaudiene Boaz in his W.A.Derby win.
Quoted Gary Hall as being right up there with Quinny.
How do you rate him, Des?

Today at Pinjarra, The Bucket List (30m) raced to the lead after a lap, another ex N.Z. horse Jimmy Johnstone (60m) raced outside it and they drew away from the rest of the field with TBL winning by 15m from JJ and the others way behind.

They haven't wasted any time in lining up The Bucket List as the record shows he was exported on 8th.April ,4 days ago.

Having won 2 country cups in impressive manner he would have been strongly favoured to take out the final.

In his 3 seasons of racing here, he only had 39 starts for 8 wins, so there should be plenty left in the tank for his new owners to see him extend his record in W.A.  Racing competitively in the best classes will not be beyond him, I feel.

New Zealand's second fastest horse over 2200m ever, The Bucket List, is racing at Pinjarra in Western Australia tomorrow off 30m. Major Star and The Bucket List have clashed many times with the score reasonably even.

Delightful Offer thrashed his rivals tonight in the W.A. Derby Prelude sitting 1/1 and sprinting away to win by 15 metres untouched. Will start one of the favourites next week in the W.A. Derby no matter where he draws. Does anyone know what the new owners paid for him because if it was similar to the money offered for The Faithful then they may get into the black very quickly.

These are just further highlighted examples of New Zealand's most important problem that is facing the harness racing industry. The ongoing selling of our horses, through all of the grades, to Australia.
Australian trainer Shane Tritton was on The Box Seat TV program this week and he advised that of the 65 horses that he currently has in training, about 50 are ex New Zealand trained horses.
It is a fact of life that horses often quickly reach their mark here in NZ, but still have plenty of competitive racing opportunity and scope to win stakes in Australia.

Ex New Zealand horses in Western Australia Derby

Post by Des Carruthers on Thu Apr 09, 2015 7:59 pm

The leading contenders for next week's Western Australian Derby include four ex New Zealand pacers namely Beaudiene Boaz, Bungalow Bill, Kiwi Legend and Delightful Offer (recently purchased from the Barry Purdon stable). The top trainers over here are constantly buying promising young horses to race in W.A. The top female horse in W.A. (and maybe Australia) is Libertybelle Midfrew who raced against Ideal Belle and Venus Serena. Another ex New Zealander still racing in Western Australia is the ex ATC Syndicate horse The Oyster Bar.
