No Des you are not missing anything. As he matures and gains racing experience Jack is becoming an under-rated talent. As far as I am concerned the longer he remains under the radar the better as it will help inflate his tote odds.
With his best results coming from a race that provides him with cover during the run and a lethal end-of-race sprint it will only be a matter of time before he has the opportunity to prove this to the big boys.

With the excellent recent performance by Major Star it made me think back to some of his early 2yo races in Victoria and the horses that he competed so well against that have gone on to become superstars both in Australia and NZ. I went to the Australian Harness Racing website and looked up Results for the Vicbred 2yo colts and geldings semi final and final at Melton on 29/6/12 and 6/7/12. The replays show Major Star mixing it with Border Control, Guaranteed and Lenny The Shark so hopefully Major Star is back from the wilderness and can live up to the great promise that he showed early in his career.
Reports from recent races have horses running their last 800 in "sizzling" or "sensational" times of 55.5sec. The current superstar The Orange Agent ran 54.4sec (admittedly from the rear) but The Faithful ran 54.7sec yet seems to be considered as having limited ability. Am I missing something? What do others think?

Des, quite correct - The Faithful ran the equal fastest last 800m running 54.7 seconds.

Great runs by both horses. Fingers crossed that they can keep up their good form. Thought it was a lovely (Mangos-esque) drive from Simon on Major Star - Star just seems to thrive when he can loop the field and put the pressure on from the back straight.

A great performance by Major Star to circle the field and hold on in 55.5 for the last 800. The Faithful was 5 lengths behind Major Star at the 800 marker and closed to a neck  ( .1 is about half a length ) so he ran in the mid 54 seconds for his final 800. The Faithful is an exciting horse to be involved with and I would love to see him at Menangle one day or even Ashburton with a sit. The new colours looked good and the photograph of the finish will be a collectors item. Major Star is now the equal 8th highest stake earner in New Zealand for the current season and The Faithful is ranked 10th in his category for the next Harness Jewels.

Three little letters say it all - WOW!!!

What more can you say...
Syndicate horses running first and second in the same race with the younger of the two allowing the older statesman to have his night in the lights.
The older version of Star from last season would not have won the race and would likely have knocked off or goofed around once he reached the front, but not this newer version of Star - he appears to have a different mental attitude and as for holding his gait whilst running a 55 second last half, that was impressive.
A win for The Faithful is imminent but it just wasn't to be tonight.

With the win tonight Star will now be a C4 and Jack is a C2 so with enough nominations being made this will hopefully keep them separated in their next races. Smaller fields in winter and lower numbers being nominated could see them in the same race again in future - but it makes for divided loyalties from syndicate members.
