Des- Will try and recall from notes made and observations.

Bettors Pocket- Competed in a 2050 mobile right handed C1 to C2. Raced wide from barrier 6 in a 10 horse field. Finished it off ok and looked to finish mid field though called further back by commentator.
Tony Cameron happy with the run. Likely to be nominated for Rotorua next weekend but check nominations.
Looks well and ready to be competitive.

The Faithful- In a 2050 left handed mobile started one from the outer in a 7 horse field. Settled Back and made a move back straight last time, finished off quite well though touched off by Start Dreaming  in a close bunch for 3rd.,4th. and 5th.
The pace was strong, set by Ideal Quest which raced clear throughout. 2m35.2 time, sectionals in 55.7 and 26.9.
Sean Grayling said, "very happy with that."
Likely to be nominated for Auckland Friday night in a C4 & faster over 1700 which will probably include Sky Major and Lancewood Lizzie. Just a question as to whether they get enough noms to get this race carded,

Major Change- Started from barrier 1 in a 5 horse mobile C2 and faster , also over 2050 metres. This race included the open class horses Sky Major and Lancewood Lizzie, plus Democrat Party and Aliante. Settled 3 back on inner and kept up until the final straight when the others pulled away, but not surprising when the sectionals of 55.3 and 26.1 s were announced!
Geoff Small timed Change  at 56.6 and 27.6 and was happy enough.
Likely to be nominated for Rotorua also.
Despite being spooky going right handed in his preliminaries he handled it well with the pace on so that is a positive. Rotorua is left handed anyway.
Was looking quite lively in the paddock later so I feel he derived benefit from the run.

Talk is that Major Star is also likely to be nominated for Rotorua.

P.S. Surfie had a good workout before the first race and is likely to be at the trials in a couple of weeks.

Looks promising.

Franklin Trials

Post by Des Carruthers on Fri Jan 15, 2016 8:30 pm

I see that there are three syndicate horses entered for the trials at Franklin on Saturday. Major Change is certainly in a very hot workout field. The last two rounds of Franklin trials have not been filmed so I am looking forward to reports from any syndicate member who attends this Saturday. It would also be good to get information regarding future racing plans from the trainers as the newsletters are still over a week away.
