I don't think so, Des- or I cannot recall one, but maybe others know of one.

The Box Seat programme on our Trackside channel delights in revealing the latest invitee but maybe there are not any keen enough to tackle the Mark Purdon/Rasmussen entourage, particularly now that Follow The Stars has been mentioned as a likely starter.

So, it could be that the 13 starters are all from New Zealand.

Change has sneaked up to 15 in the Harness Jewels rankings and is only $3800 below No12 ( Livura), following further withdrawals from those previously above him.

Is this a dream, or could he be there?

I remember another of Geoff Small's horses (Murphy Maguire, part owned by some ATC syndicate people) getting a last minute entry and actually finishing 4th. in fast time, some years back.

Well, that was his best win yet in the strongest field he has met and under a hold.

As they say about David Butcher, you will generally still have a horse after he has driven it.

Where to next? As Ray has pointed out he can win 2 more as a 3 year old and be a C4.

Looking at him his condition seems better every time he lines up so it is a tough call to pull the plug at this time  but the trainer will know best no doubt.

6 wins from 11 starts is one hell of a good record.
As for a spell now, we will have to wait and see on that one. Even Geoff Small seemed undecided on that one going by his comments in the last newsletter. Geoff has said, “We might even freshen him up and keep winning free ones and then maybe look to give him a better break later".
At the end of the day Change will let us know when he has had enough.
When you have had 6 wins you really need to gain these wins as a 2 or 3 year old as you only go through the grades at half the rate of a 4 year old (every second win being exempt). Once he races as a 4 yrs old each win is a grade rise which would see him reach his mark very quickly. If Change is coming through his races ok then they may try for another couple of wins as a 3 year old as it will only put him up the one grade to a C4.

Down to race at Palmerston North Raceway on Tuesday, 14th.April in race 8, a 2000 metres mobile for 3 year olds and older.  Drawn at No.2 again.

Once again is the only 3 year old in the field but maybe one of the older ones will search for the lead. Depends how they settle I suppose.

The Faithful and Major Change deadheated in the workout on Wednesday. The confusion came about because Zac and Barry picked up the wrong saddlecloth numbers before going onto the track. Hope this clarifies the situation.

The results on the website have The Faithful running third in the Franklin trial. Is that correct?
If Major Change has a very good Easter weekend then his prize money will be getting up towards Jewels level. Is that aiming too high for Major Change as he is yet to race the better 3year olds?

Hi Des. I was not able to attend the workouts at Pukekohe today due to work commitments however details of the workout were relayed to those in attendance at the meeting this evening at Alexandra Park (in regard to the proposed sale of The Faithul).
I stand to be corrected, but I am advised that there were 3 horses in the workout, Major Change, The Faithful and Aliante (half sister to Christen Me).
Major Change led throughout with The Faithful in the trail. They covered the last 800m in around 57-58 seconds with the last 400m in 27.9 seconds.
The Faithful challenged down the straight but Major Change fought on to win by a head at the line. Aliante was 2 to 2.5 lengths further behind.
Neither of our syndicate horses were driven out and neither horse had the plugs pulled - it was only a workout after all.
A pleasing syndicate quinella.

Did anyone see the trial at Franklin today with Major Change and The Faithful both involved? They usually do not provide video when they show the results from the Franklin trials so often I have to wait for the monthly newsletter to find out what kind of performance was produced by the horses involved.

Major Change racing again after a short break

Post by ray the beancounter on Tue Mar 31, 2015 11:19 pm

Back again on his favoured grass surface.  This time at the Hawera Easter meeting racing on Saturday (Race 10 at 5.15pm).
Quite a big field to contend with but with his current formline he has to be a good prospect to do well.
The nominations are also up on the HRNZ website for Monday and he is nominated for Monday as well, but no doubt that will depend on how well he runs on the first day.
